Project ARK also funds HIV medical providers and agencies that support these population groups.

  • A: Yes. Project ARK offers care and prevention services for young, HIV-infected and at-risk men, as well as partners of women infected with HIV and/or fathers of HIV-infected children.

Q: What services does Project ARK provide?

  • A: Project ARK is the only organization that specifically coordinates the delivery of medical care, social support and prevention services for children, youth, young adults, women and families that are infected, affected and at risk for HIV. We offer clients the following services.
    • Medical care: physicians, nurses, pharmacists and dieticians in collaboration with Washington University Adult Infectious Disease Program/Helena Hatch Special Care Center, St. Louis Children's Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, St. Louis University/New Hope Clinic and other providers.
    • Psycho-social support: case management, mental health services, support groups, special events and legal services.
    • Prevention services: educational presentations, outreach, counseling and testing, skills building, support groups and prevention case management

    At Project ARK, we realize that our clients are all different and have different needs. That is why we offer customized psycho-social support services for our specific population groups through the following programs:
    • Project ARK Children's Program - Project ARK Children's Program provides medical care and psycho-social services for HIV-infected and exposed children and their families.
    • HEY (Health and Education for Youth) - HEY is a comprehensive education, support and resource program for youth and young adults living with HIV, at risk for HIV or affected by HIV.
    • HHSCC (Helena Hatch Special Care Center) - Project ARK partners with Helana Hatch Specialty Care Center to provide medical care and psycho-social support exclusively to women who are affected by HIV.
    • Sister's Project - Project ARK offers prevention and education for women through its Sister's Project.

Q: What does it mean to be a Ryan White Title IV program?

  • A: Project ARK was funded as a Ryan White Title IV program in 1995. In addition to providing direct services to it clients, we provide Title IV funding to a network of community providers that combined, serve the vast majority of HIV-infected children, youth, young adults and women within the St. Louis metropolitan area. The Title IV network includes funded partners, Washington University and St. Louis University-based comprehensive HIV programs and Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and multiple AIDS service and community based organizations that are non-Title IV funded partners that together create a continuum of care for Title IV population groups.

    All Ryan White Title IV programs are required to provide the following key program elements:
    • Develop and implement comprehensive care infrastructures that increase access to culturally competent, family-centered, community-based, coordinated care including primary care for HIV-infected and affected women, children, youth and families;
    • Linking clients to, and facilitating enrollment in, research of potential clinical benefit;
    • Involving consumers in personal care decisions and in planning, implementing and/or evaluation project activites;
    • Emphasizing prevention within the comprehensive care system in order to reduce the spread of HIV-infection, particularly, but not exclusively, perinatal HIV transmission; and
    • Identifying at-risk or HIV-infected populations, such as youth, and linking then into existing care systems.

Q: What is the relationship between Project ARK and HEY (Health and Education for Youth)?

  • A: HEY is one of Project ARK's programs that provides comprehensive education, support and resources for youth and young adults living with HIV, at risk for HIV or affected by HIV.

Q: What is the relationship between Project ARK and HHSCC (Helena Hatch Specialty Care Center)?

  • A: Project ARK partners with Helena Hatch Specialty Care Center to provide medical care and psycho-social support exclusively to women who are living with HIV.
