Outreach Activities
During outreach, volunteers hand out safer sex kits
with risk reduction information including pictures illustrating
proper condom use, information on STDs (Chlamydia, Gonorrhea,
Herpes, and Syphilis), HIV prevention methods, the modes
of HIV transmission, as well as information on HIV testing
sites. Kits also contain a variety of latex condoms
and water based lubricant. Outreach takes place at establishments
that are popular with MSM including: The Complex Nightclub,
Magnolia's, Spot, Amp, JJ's Clubhouse, The Loading Zone,
Freddie's, Pynk (formerly Attitudes), The Coffee Cartel
and MoKaBe's Coffeehouse.
As
an Outreach Volunteer, you could possibly be asked all
sorts of questions. While volunteers never work alone,
we want to make sure all Outreach Volunteers have basic
information concerning HIV, STDs, and our HIV testing
method so that you give out accurate information when
helping out.
Our
next Outreach Volunteer training is generally held:
Date: Each 2nd Friday of the Month
Time: 6:00- 8:00pm.
Location: Project ARK Office, 4169 Laclede Avenue,
St. Louis, MO 63108
Topics: Project ARK/HEY overview, volunteer &
staff responsibilities, HIV & STD Basics, OraSure
HIV Testing Method

Administrative
Support
Volunteers are *always* needed to pack safer sex kits,
make copies, label and stamp envelopes & brochures,
inventory, design flyers, research materials, run errands,
and much more. The assistance of administrative volunteers
cannot be overestimated. This work is usually very social
and done in a comfortable lounge area. If interested
in this volunteer work, please contact Charles Janski
at 314-535-7275 x 210 or at Janski_C@kids.wustl.edu.
Support
of HIV+ kids, women, & families
If your interest is working with kids, women, or supporting
our efforts with children please contact Stacey Slovacek
at 314-757-7275 (cell) as she coordinates volunteer
efforts with our care side. One excellent volunteer
opportunity is to help with Camp HOPE, our weekend camp
retreat for HIV-infected children and their affected
family members. More information about Camp HOPE and
volunteering for camp can be found at http://projectark.wustl.edu/CampHope.html
