Percent of teens who want to know more about How to Talk to a Partner about HIV AIDS (46%)

Our Tuesday Night Crew social support group offers the following suggestions when talking to your partner about getting tested. See if these will work for you!

Here's some example statements you can try with your partner.

They Say "We've only been with each other, why do we need to get tested?"
You Can Say "To know where we stand if we ever want to have sex."
"We haven't always been with each other and we want to be sure that we both are okay for ourselves."

They Say "We're not showing any symptoms or anything."
You Can Say "It don't matter, many people have tested positive and have no symptoms. They look, act, talk, and walk like anyone else."

They Say "Are you trying to say that you're cheating on me?"
You Can Say "No, I'm saying lets be smart and know."
"No, we both know that we've had other seuxal partners in the past, so we are just making sure."

They Say "I don't know if I wanna know my results."
You Can Say "It's not what you wanna know,
it's what I need to know."
"Well, what is it that makes you scared? I've been tested and I think it's better to know than to be in the dark."

They Say "We've been using condoms each time, sowhy we gotta do that?"
You Can Say
"Because the safest sex is no sex, and since we've been having we should get informed."
"STDs are spread through multiple ways and I'd just like to be sure."

They Say "We got tested before we first hooked up, so why we gotta get tested again?"
You Can Say "Not all STDs show up right away."
"Because I think it's a good idea!"
