How
do I become a Captain/Master Guardian?
In
addition to a Captain/Master
Guardian Application, Captain and Master Guardians must
complete an interview with a current Captain or Master Guardian
as well as basic training of HIV and STD education.
What
are the Guardians responsibilities?
The Guardians frequent businesses where young gay/bi men gather,
including social organizations, bars, "the stroll"
or coffee houses.
The Guardians have Guardian literature as well as safer sex
messages and condoms to hand out and have current knowledge
of safer sex information and other important information to
foster communication.
Guardians serve as peer leaders in the community, share important
messages for their peers, and mentor members of the target group.
They create an image that encourages others to self identify
as guardians.
The Guardians encourage contacts made in the community to join
the Guardian Mpowerment Social Discussion Group, where the guiding
principles are practiced and encouraged.
